YES it can!!
This Topsy-Turvy cake was made for my niece’s 2nd birthday. It was a rather interesting experience considering this was my first topsy-turvy cake. I decided to make this fun cake in VA and deliver it to my niece on her Birthday in PA. It was an 8 hour trip with lots worry. This cake was not fully assembled however, I did have to make some minor repairs upon my arrival to PA. I transported the cake in three separate layers in the back of my Honda Fit. The bottom layer of the cake was tapered a bit with a section cut out to lay on the second layer and third layers. The top decided to slip a bit and I needed to use dowels to keep it from totally falling apart.. Overall it was a huge success. The bottom layer was 2 simple yellow 10 in round cakes stacked with butter cream icing, middle layer was layered chocolate/vanilla cakes with butter cream icing and the top layer was the Wilton large cupcake cake….
This cake was made with Pillsbury funfetti mix (Pillsbury with pudding in the mix does a great job holding up to the weight of the fondant)..
I made homemade marshmallow fondant and butter cream icing.
In the above picture you can see how the cake began to slip…but it held up until it was time to eat!!
